Sometimes I don’t know, who is learning more – the Zanskarkidz or me. They learn technical skills with the cameras, how to take photos, how to think about photos, how to imagine what might be interessting for outsiders to learn about Zanskar and that people like the results, buy calender or put prints on their walls. They learn, that they are not only “backwards” (a word which is used in India very often for the people in this area) and a source for donations, but have abilities which other people will value.
Me, I learn how not-selfish children can be, how easy they are with sharing, looking for fairness, treat everyone with respect and look around if everyone is fine. For sure they are not pure angels, but they show a behaviour I am not used from my western society. I learn about their lifestyle, their thoughts (although that goes quite slowly sometimes as there are still language difficulties and too much respect), I get access to places I never was before (like a monks cell), how to edit their photos and a lot about how to lead a project.
But what can I ask more – there is nothing better then learning from and with each other!
Manchmal weiß ich nicht, wer mehr lernt – die Zanskarkidz oder ich. Sie lernen technische Fertigkeiten mit dem Kameras, wie man Fotos macht, wie man über Fotos nachdenkt, wie man sich vorstellt, was für Außenstehende interessant ist über Zanskar zu lernen und dass Leute die Ergebnisse mögen, sich Kalender kaufen oder Abzüge an die Wand hängen. Sie lernen, dass sie nicht nur “rückständig” sind (ein Wort, was in Indien sehr oft für die Leute dieser Region gebraucht wird) und eine Quelle für Spenden, sondern Fähigkeiten haben, die andere wertschätzen.
Ich lerne, wie nicht-egoistisch Kinder sein können, wie leicht sie teilen, nach Gerechtigkeit schauen, jeden mit Respekt behandeln und schauen, ob es allen gut geht. Natürlich sind sie keine reinen Engel, aber sie zeigen ein Verhalten, welches ich nicht aus meiner westlichen gesellschaft gewohnt bin. Ich lerne über ihre Lebensweise, ihre Gedanken (obwohl das sehr langsam geht wegen Sprachschwierigkeiten und dem etwas großen Respekt), ich bekomme Zugang zu Orten, wo ich vorher nie war (z.B. einer Mönchszelle), wie ich ihre Fotos editieren kann und ganz viel, wie man ein Projekt leitet.
Aber was kann ich mir mehr wünschen – es gibt nichts besseres als mit- und voneinander zu lernen!
